On the 1st of March an exciting new phase of our union's history begins as we become United Voice.
Our union is over 100 hundred years old and throughout its life it has been known by many different names - changing as the times and needs change. Today, more than ever, we need a name that helps unite and inspire us.
People join and become active in our union because they want a United Voice on the issues that affect them.
A United Voice on pay and conditions at work and in their industry.
A United Voice on fairness and respect in the workplace.
A United Voice on the issues that affect our communities and families.
Our new name reflects all these ambitions and it is a name that sums up the essence of what it means to be a union member.
Everybody understands when you stand alone and speak alone you are alone. But when we work together, stand together and act together we are so much stronger. No matter whether you are a childcare professional, security officer, cleaner, health or aged care professional, teachers’ aide, hospitality, hotel or casino worker, ambulance professional, baker or manufacturing worker - any worker really - we are stronger together in one union - with a United Voice.
Louise Tarrant, National Secretary of United Voice, will formally launch the new name on March 1st with a speech to the National Press Club in Canberra. This speech will take place during the union’s National Council where elected leaders from across our workplaces and industries come together each year to set a plan for the union’s future. This speech will be posted to our website at unitedvoice.org.au.
Members should go to the new website for details on the launch of the new name and to see reports from the National Council.
