Adelaide Hyatt members pledge their support for Better Jobs
A meeting between Adelaide's Hyatt members and their general manager about the Better Jobs, Better Hotels campaign was recently cancelled.
As part of the better jobs better hotels campaign, Hyatt workers in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast have signed pledge cards asking their bosses to commit to better jobs in their hotels.
On Thursday 14 August 2008, LHMU hotel members around the country arranged to meet with their managers and present their cards to them.
At the Adelaide Hyatt, employees were left disappointed as the general manager would not meet with them saying that he was too busy. The 190 pledge cards of support for the campaign were left with the manager’s assistant and the employees were not able explain the benefits of the campaign to the general manager.
The better jobs better hotels campaign is aimed at addressing issues such as work load, health and safety and staff turnover in hotels which will significantly improve the industry.
“We want a better, fairer workplace,” said Hyatt worker Alex Maddern.
