On Monday November 17, delegates and members at Amana Living's Lady McCusker facility in Duncraig WA celebrated their new Union Collective Agreement with LHMU Secretary Dave Kelly and CEO of Amana Ray Glickman.

Amana Living is one of WA’s largest providers of residential aged care, and EBA celebrations have been held at all facilities.

“Negotiations for the new Agreement began in May,” said LHMU assistant secretary Kelly Shay.

“The negotiation process was difficult to begin with, but at the end we got a better pay rise than what we were first offered,” said Margaret Roberts, enrolled nurse and LHMU delegate.

“We are fortunate to be in a position that we are very well equipped for the workload we carry,” she said.

“The hardest part is being short-staffed.”

Carol Harrison, carer and LHMU delegate, agreed.

“Hopefully this EBA will attract more permanent staff,” she said.

The new Agreement means enrolled nurses, carers, hospitality services staff, kitchen coordinators and maintenance staff will receive $1 per hour increases each year for three years.
