Now is the time for climate action.‏

Dear member,

Steve McGhie, AEA-V SecretaryThe climate crisis is one of the biggest challenges workers have faced. Every month the warnings of the dangers of a warming globe become louder and more urgent. We need our leaders to take action, nationally and globally, if we are to avoid the terrible consequences of the climate crisis.

Our campaigns have shown that when workers stand together we can make a real difference. That is why AEA (LHMU) members around the country are signing on to become Union Climate Connectors.

Sign up to become a Union Climate Connector here.

If we don't deal with the climate crisis now we will be leaving future generations worse off than ourselves. We can only build a fairer society in a safe climate that is centred on good green jobs and strong, active communities. Now is the time for climate action.

Sign up to become a union climate connector today.

The Union Climate Connectors program is being run in partnership with Australian unions, including the LHMU, and the Australian Conservation Foundation. As a Union Climate Connector you will receive materials and updates to help people in your workplace make small changes, in their homes, at work and in the community.

Already there are 1500 connectors from many different unions across the country standing united against the challenge of tackling the climate crisis.

AEA-V members have shown that nothing is stronger than workers standing together for change. We have the opportunity to help bring a change that will make an impact to the rest of human history.

Become a Union Climate Connector today.

In unity,

Steve McGhie,

LHMU Organising for the futureLHMU Organising for the futureLHMU has taken an exciting step into the public debate on climate change, with a new paper on the challenges and opportunities workers face.

The paper focuses on what climate change means for both low paid workers and key LHMU industries – property services, hospitality and tourism, children’s services, health and aged care, and manufacturing.

LHMU members work across the spectrum of Australia’s economy, and we are some of Australia’s lowest paid workers. This is why LHMU members have a unique contribution to make to the nation’s response to climate change.

We need to ensure low income earners are not left behind and that workers have a voice in how their workplace transitions are achieved and how our industries can move to create green jobs.

The paper has been sent to Members of Parliament, environment groups and other community groups. View an electronic copy, or contact your LHMU branch to order a hard copy.
