Angry cleaners to take their message to Barnett
Media release: Cleaners to protest at Governor Stirling Tower tomorrow.
Cleaners, furious at the way they have been treated by Colin Barnett less than 100 days into his government’s term, will deliver their message to him tomorrow.
“One of Colin Barnett’s first decisions as premier was to take $3 per hour from the cleaners of government buildings,” said Carolyn Smith, assistant secretary of the LHMU.
“The previous Labor government committed the $3 per hour increase, which was due to be implemented on 1st October.
“But now Mr Barnett is refusing to honour this commitment.
“Cleaners are among the lowest-paid workers in our community. Christmas is only six weeks away, and cleaners are being forced to survive on $15 per hour.
“Mr Barnett needs to realise that with living costs soaring, $15 per hour is not a realistic wage anymore.”
A demonstration will be held tomorrow -
