Big Steps story makes it to Parliament House
The recent Walk In My Shoes challenge was such an inspiration for one politician that she spoke about it on her first speech of the new term of parliament.
Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy said the experience 'brought home to me the many challenges faced on a daily basis by childcare professionals and the importance of the LHMU Big Steps in Child Care campaign.'
The Senator went on to commit to working with childcare members to achieve professional wages 'I support their campaign for better wages and better access to the up skilling opportunities and will do my best within government to help achieve these positive outcomes'.
This is a great example of the power of the Walk In My Shoes Challenge and the importance of continuing to remind politicians of the valuable work childcare professionals do. Senator Lundy also met with members on the night, pictured below.
It is important that we continue to remind politicians of the vital work you do and we can only do this by working together. To get involved in the next activity targeting federal politicians, get in touch with your local LHMU representative.
