Brutal attack on security guards

Tue 19 May 09 Comments

Last Saturday's brutal attack of two security guards confirms what security officers have long known: urgent reform of the security industry is overdue in the ACT.

The attack at a teenage birthday party at the Rydges Lakeside saw the security officers hospitalised with serious injuries.

LHMU – The security union’s ACT Secretary Lyndal Ryan says “Attacks on security officers are a regular occurrence in Canberra. Unfortunately, they are becoming more common.

“We have put a proposal to Government to Bring the Act Security Industry in line with other ACT Government policy.  This ensures ethical behaviour on behalf of employers and increased rights for workers”

“Attorney-General Simon Corbell has been open to our proposal. We welcome that promise and look forward to working with him on bringing our security system into the 21st Century,” says Lyndal Ryan.
