Can you risk it?

Fri 08 May 09 Comments

Your union is backing the Unions NSW campaign to maintain the high OHS standards that currently exist in NSW.

The Rudd Government made a commitment before the 2007 election that Labor would uphold existing safety standards. The Federal Government is now in the process of harmonising OHS laws across Australia which could lead to lower standards in NSW workplaces.

One of the rights NSW workers could lose includes the right for their union to prosecute employers for OHS breaches if WorkCover fails to take action.

Tell the government OHS harmonisation should be about workers' rights to a safe and healthy workplace. It should include:

  • * a right to refuse unsafe work
  • * a right to be consulted about the risks and ways to eliminate or control them
  • * a right to participate in activities that will increase their rights at work in relation to OHS.

Be part of the campaign which will save your life!

Sign the email petition to Federal Minister for Workplace Relations Julia Gillard now! Or talk to your organiser about how you can help by distributing Don’t Risk 2nd Rate Safety postcards in your workplace.
