Childcare union slams new licensing fee

Wed 20 May 09 Comments

A plan by the WA State government to introduce licensing fees for childcare operators shows the government is out of touch with the childcare industry and working families.

LHMU, the childcare union, has slammed the State government for introducing the licensing fee in its recent Budget.

“The introduction of this fee comes with no improvements in the service that licensing provides to the industry,” said LHMU Assistant Secretary Kelly Shay.

“There is no guarantee that the revenue raised by this licensing fee will be used to implement regulations within the childcare industry.

“The government has given no indication of any timeline as to when new regulations will be implemented.

“It’s just further revenue-raising for the State government -- that will come from the pockets of working families.

“Working families already hurt by this government’s first Budget. This is one more example of how they will worse off under the Liberal State government.”
