“Colin Barnett’s decision to take $3 per hour from the cleaners of government buildings is outrageous,” said Carolyn Smith, assistant secretary of the LHMU.
“The previous Labor government committed the $3 per hour increase, and Mr Barnett’s refusal to honour this commitment is a slap in the face to the hard working people who clean his and other government offices.
“Christmas is only six weeks away, and cleaners are being forced to survive on $15 per hour.”
Shadow minister for industrial relations Fran Logan said cleaners deserve to be angry.
“[The government] is effectively saying ‘I know you are lowly paid and I don’t care. We are not going to help you.’” Mr Logan said.
“This slimy, backsliding [by the government] will not go away. I will raise is this over and over again on your behalf in Parliament.”
Mr Logan will be asking the government about the promised pay increase during Question Time today at 2 pm.
