No pay offer from Crown = no respect!
Your Casino Union bargaining team met with Crown about our new EA for the fourth time on Thursday 27 May 2010.
Once again, the lead negotiator for Crown - Peter Coyne - refused to put a pay offer on the table.
It now seems pretty clear that Peter wants to try and string EA negotiations out as long as possible. He even said he thought that if the process took seven months, that would be “reasonable”.
Are you willing to wait until November 2010 for a pay rise?
If, like thousands of other Crown employees, you think this is not good enough, sign the petition going round site today.
Tell Peter Coyne we want respect – tell him we want a pay offer now!
Let's do the numbers
So you’ve worked hard over the past four years to make Crown the most profitable casino in Australia, by providing the best quality of service across the country.
Your hard work has led to Crown recording massive increases in their revenue and profit over the past 12 months.
Increases like:
• Main gaming floor revenue up by 6.7% last financial year to a massive $855.30 million
• VIP gaming revenue increased by a whopping 14% to $329.7 million
• Total revenue increased by 8.3% to $1,498.3 million
• Reported EBITDA (PROFIT) up 7.5% to $477.3 million
• All of this leading to a record turnover of $24.4 billion.
So you’ve worked hard, you’ve made Crown the most profitable casino in Australia and Crown won’t even tell you what you're worth!
Crown's response to your proposals
As well as refusing to put any money on the table, Crown have said “no” to most of your 10 point plan for improving work conditions at Crown.
NO – to maintaining current conditions – Crown want to cut minimum hours for part timers, and can’t guarantee that all current conditions will be maintained in the new EA.
NO – to our pay proposal and NO on putting forward a pay offer of their own. They have also said NO to guaranteeing that carparking costs will not increase during the life of the EA.
NO – to our consultation proposal – Crown say their current consultation processes are good enough (even though over 80% of Crown employees surveyed by the LHMU disagree).
NO – to everything we proposed to improve work/life balance and rostering for Crown employees and NO to more Saturdays and Sundays off work for people who want them off.
NO – to improving job certainty for casuals. NO to improving notice for casuals about their rosters so casual employees can plan their lives better.
MAYBE – on improving some classification structures but NO to improving classification structures for food and beverage attendants. However Crown are prepared to “look at” some classifications (although it might be another 2 weeks before we see their table games proposal).
NO – on improving how Crown deals with sick leave – NO to increasing “evidence free” days, and to removing the discrimination between weekdays, and days before/after weekends, RDO’s, public holidays or other leave days.
NO – on increasing annual leave to the same level as other shift workers in the hospitality industry.
YES – to improving conditions for Crown employees working in hot or cold environments.
YES – to a plain English EA (although it could be 7 months before its finalised).
So Crown said NO to the majority of our proposals.
At the next meeting (3 June 2010), your Casino Union bargaining team is going to make sure that your voice is heard!
We are going to give Crown a deadline at the next bargaining meeting - if this isn’t met we will take action.
We are going to make sure that Crown know Casino Union members stand together behind their union claim.
These proposals will not only make Crown a better place to work, but will improve their business too!
Standing up for your union claim!
• Ask your manager what Crown’s pay offer is today!
• Join our union, if you haven’t already!
• Talk up our union claim on site!
• Talk to your work mates and make sure they are standing with you to win your new EA.
Crown’s response to your proposals
• Sign the petition, if you haven’t already!
Deadline for pay offer - 16 June 2010
Crown employees are prepared to take action if our deadline is not met!

As a casual I work just as hard as part and full timers. In food and bev we make Crown very profitable. Those profit figures are significant and can't just be ignored.
This shows us that Crown doesn't 'value' their employers at all.
