Union pressure moves Crown forward: inch by inch
Last week, a group of casino union members delivered thousands of signed postcards to Crown CEO David Courtney — demanding Crown improve its EA wage offer.
David was otherwise engaged at the time but we got the message across — if he says we’re the number one casino in Australia than why is his wage offer one of the lowest in the country?
David wasn’t happy about our action, but it worked!
The next day David increased his wage offer from 9% over three years to 10.25% over
three years.
Union pressure also forced Crown to:
- withdraw its plans to cut HD rates
- improve the way it consults with employees about workplace change
- improve rostering practices
- prevent harassment of employees about sick leave.
But it is nowhere near good enough.
Crown’s pay offer is still well below what Burswood Casino workers got last year.
It is also below what Crown employees were paid in the last agreement.
At the same time, Crown are resisting our proposals to improve career paths at the casino.
Crown employees from all departments are getting together next week to talk about how to push Crown further.
We know that when we send Crown one strong united message, they have to listen.
To have your say about Crown’s lowball pay offer, come to a meeting next week on Thursday.
“Crown is on the move and the only way to keep them rolling is by power in numbers. If we want more we have to send a stronger message.”Jessy Hall, Dealer (pictured)
