"Do the right thing" childcare members tell governments
Childcare members across Australia want their governments to do the right thing on childcare reform at next Monday's Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting.
In Queensland parents and childcare members are concerned that their State is dragging the chain on the long overdue quality reforms. They took their message about quality early education and care directly to Premier Anna Bligh with a rally at a Queensland Government Community Cabinet meeting held in Brisbane on Sunday.
In response, the Premier said she wants Queensland to have the best childcare system in the world. For that to happen Anna Bligh's Government must support:
• Better child to worker ratios
• Professional wages
• Adequate support for upskilling of the existing workforce which has demonstrated it's commitment to the sector
Other states have made the childcare quality commitment. It's time Anna Bligh and her Government did the same for Queensland families and childcare professionals.
