Fosters fined over worker's death
Fosters Group has been fined $1.125 million for failing to provide adequate safety measures that led to the death of Abbotsford Brewery worker Cuu Huynh.
In 2006 Cuu was crushed between the handrail and door of a depalletiser machine, which takes empty bottles from pallets before they are filled with beer.
Acting Victorian Country Court Judge Barbara Cottrell said a reasonable employer placed in a similar position would have foreseen the risks.
Employers need to provide safety information to workers in a language they can read and understand, Cottrell added.
The LHMU has called for Fosters to work with the union and WorkSafe to make meaningful improvements to safety standards and procedures.
