Future looking up for Margate's childcare centre

Wed 29 Apr 09 Comments

Workers and parents learned last night their community's fight to keep the Margate ABC childcare centre open is a step closer to success.

More than 100 people attended last night’s community meeting organised by the LHMU to save the centre in the small Tasmanian town. They heard that a contract for the sale of the centre is expected to be exchanged within days.

“Although a sale hasn’t yet been finalised, this is definitely good news for Margate,” says David O’Byrne, Tasmanian Branch Secretary of LHMU – The childcare union.

“Last night potential owners of the centre heard the message loudly and clearly that this centre has a future. Families and workers at the centre know it is valuable community resource and that it has strong support from the community.”
