Unbelievable. That's the verdict of LHMU National Secretary Louise Tarrant on Tony Abbott's claim that WorkChoices is dead.

"How can anyone trust Tony Abbott's guarantee that no worker will be worse off under the Opposition's proposed changes to industrial relations laws when all we hear from him and his fellow Liberals is that they want to reintroduce individual contracts, cut penalties and do away with unfair dismissal rights?" asks Louise Tarrant.

"The Opposition's claim that they will introduce flexibility into the workplace means one thing for our members:  uncertainty. That's what this Liberal mantra means. It is code for flexibility for employers and uncertainty and insecurity for workers.

"Similarly, workers know from bitter experience that individual contracts are designed to stop workers from acting and negotiating collectively for fair wages and working conditions.

"If Tony Abbott persists with this move to introduce a WorkChoices Mark II he should prepare himself for the inevitable. Working families fought and defeated WorkChoices Mark1.

"In the coming election workers need to make sure we finally bury WorkChoices," says Louise Tarrant.
