Hospital workers agree to lift work bans after new government offer

Thu 30 Sep 10 Comments

After LHMU members met with government representatives at the commission for long periods yesterday and this morning, the government has agreed to change its offer.

No order was issued by the commissioner.
Carolyn Smith, assistant secretary of the LHMU, said: “Most of the other government trade-offs that our members weren’t happy with have either been taken off the table or completely or significantly changed. These include equal conditions for casuals and roster changes.
“Because of this, we have agreed to lift the work bans to enable a series of consultative meetings with our members to happen next week.
“However, while there has been change, the major sticking point is still the government’s privatisation agenda and the measly pay offer which has not moved from 62c p/h.
“We want to go to our members and let them have an opportunity to make a decision about this critical change which the government wants to roll out in WA hospitals.
“The government has also said it would improve the wages offer if we were to agree to their trade-offs. However, they have not put a figure on what this potential rise will be.
“Our members will have the opportunity to discuss this also next week.”
