Hotel workers petition for wage increase
IHG workers lodged a petition signed by more than two hundred of their fellow workers from seven different hotels across the country to Fair Work Australia.
The petition asks for a fair pay increase from Fair Work Australia as it reviews the minimum wage. This is due to change on July 1 2010.
It’s good for us to be putting in this petition because Fair Work Australia needs to hear from actual workers as well as big business and the bosses.
Zlatko Andreev, Crowne Plaza Darling Harbour
Hotel workers spent a month collecting signatures from their workmates to show Fair Work Australia the importance of a fair pay rise. In Sydney, Anthony, Evelyn, and Zlatko handed over the stack of petitions to represent their co-workers.
Workers just have to get together and talk to each other to make sure we get the best pay increase we can this year. We can’t just keep losing really good people because the job doesn’t pay a good enough wage.
