LHMU members add their voices to the Australian Parliamentary apology to the Stolen Generation

Tue 12 Feb 08 Comments

On the eve of the Australian Parliamentary apology to the Stolen Generation, LHMU National Secretary, Louise Tarrant, put on record the Union’s support for the apology to the Stolen Generation.

“We add our voices to the Australian Parliamentary apology and say sorry to our Indigenous brothers and sisters.

“We especially acknowledge at this time the many past and present Indigenous members of the LHMU and their families.

“We are relieved that at last the First Australians will have their loss and suffering formally acknowledged by our nation.

“An apology cannot undo the damage that has been done to so many thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by the deliberate policy of stealing children from their families.

“It is, however, a crucial act of national respect, compassion and humanity for fellow human beings.”
