At the recent ALP state conference held in Brisbane, the contentious issue of privatisation was debated, with the LHMU and a majority of unions voting against a motion which supported Premier Anna Bligh’s Renewing Queensland package.
In that package is a proposal to sell off some existing infrastructure and government businesses to help fund the government’s new infrastructure projects.
“The LHMU has never supported privatisation and never will,” Branch Secretary Gary Bullock said.
“We will support other unions and campaign with them to stop privatisation,” he said.
Gary said other unions had supported the LHMU against Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements in schools last year, that would have seen cleaning positions privatised.
"We were able to negotiate an outcome with the Labor government that saved those jobs and last week the rail unions managed to negotiate for the vast majority of Queensland rail employees to save their jobs from being privatised."
"Despite this, we need to campaign to stop the rest going," Gary said.

I will do everyting I can in supporting all unions against it
