Members standing together to fight MSS rip-off

Tue 30 Jun 09 Comments

Members at ISS and Wilson will get a 4.5 percent pay rise tomorrow as part of their union agreement, making them the top paid guards in the state.

MSS guards are now getting ripped off worse than ever.

ALewerFor the past 12 months MSS guards have been ripped off on voluntary overtime rates, getting only a 15 percent loading compared to 23 percent (the real casual rate) at the other major contractors.

And now MSS want to slash afternoon shift penalties.

Tell MSS CEO George Chin now that guards deserve a fair deal.

With rates starting at just $16.12 an hour, we need fairer shift penalties and the real casual rate for voluntary overtime to make enough money to get by.

MSS Cabrini Hospital delegate Andrew Lewer (pictured) said it is time to stand up and fight for fair penalty rates.

‘We’re not paid well as it is for what we do, and to lose $100 out of your pay is just ridiculous.’

MSS Commonwealth Bank and casual reliever Bruce Adams said guards have to show they are determined to win the same pay and conditions as ISS and Wilson members.

‘We need to stand together and fight together to win a strong agreement. I know the guards on all the sites I work on are very willing to do that.’

‘We’ve just got to stand up and do it.’

MSS members fight is everyone’s fight; this is a fight to protect industry standard shift penalties, voluntary overtime rates, wages and conditions.
