Menzies school cleaners say no to income protection
Menzies school cleaners have overwhelmingly voted 'no' to income protection that would have meant a cut in their pay rise.
The company had proposed an income protection clause that meant cleaners would have to pay for it each year out of their pay rise. Cleaners' wages and allowances would have been discounted by 1.39%, so they only get a 2.11% pay rise.
ISS, Joss, Broadlex and Transfield have all agreed to pay a 3.5% a year pay rise to school cleaners.
At a count of the vote last week, some 468 cleaners voted 'no' and 145 voted 'yes' to the income protection clause.
We are now finalising the agreement without the income protection clause which will go out to cleaners for a vote.
