MP Nick Lalich supports school cleaners
School cleaners Norma Lesini and Bruno Pagano met with Member for Cabramatta MP Nick Lalich last week to sign him up to the school cleaners' "KEEP IT CLEAN for our schools' future" campaign.
Norma says it was "great" meeting her local MP. And she talked about how cleaners "need Ministers [and local MPs] to support us for the next contract". "Every time the contract changes we feel scared," Norma says. "We don’t know what is going to happen to [our jobs]."
Norma also says she spoke about the need for fair funding and an effective voice for cleaners in the next contract. "We have too much work – we need more hours," she says. "Every time the school has more computers the hours still stays the same … In the short time we get, we have more work. We have not enough hours to do our jobs properly."
MP Lalich was very nice and agreed with what cleaners were asking for, Norma says. "He promised to do something about it."
Having now met with her local MP, Norma says it is important all school cleaners get involved so they get seen. "The government – they don't look at us," she says. "It is important to cleaners because we want to save our jobs … it's for our future."
