National Clean Start Shopping Centre Conference

Invitations are now open to any contract cleaner who wishes to attend the National Clean Start Shopping Centre Conference to be held in Sydney on 8 and 9 November 2010.

The conference is open to members and non-members of the LHMU.

The conference is part of a program focusing on educating and informing cleaners on the purpose of and skills necessary to undertake collective bargaining. The program is supported by the Australian Government.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Their rights under the Fair Work Act;
  • How bargaining works under the Fair Work Act;
  • The legal framework of collective bargaining;
  • What bargaining in good faith means;
  • Communicating with employers and developing negotiation skills;
  • Developing solutions to work issues raised in bargaining;
  • Freedom of Association and its implications for the bargaining process and member recruitment;
  • Communicating with workmates about what is happening in negotiations.

 

Please note cleaners will not be paid to attend and arrangements will need to be made with your employer.

Any interested cleaner should contact their local LHMU Branch and ask to speak to a Clean Start organiser.
