In an attempt to ensure the Paid Parental Leave Bill is passed unions are calling on members to sign a petition in support of Labor's Bill so that access to the leave can commence as scheduled from 1 January 2011.
It is critical that Coalition MPs and Senators be made aware of the importance of passing Labor's Bill, to ensure access to Paid Parental Leave is not delayed.
The Queensland Council of Unions and its affiliates have been fighting for improved conditions for working families in the lead-up to, and following, the birth of a child for decades.
Paid parental leave was a significant victory for all working women and families, however there are still some hurdles to seeing it introduced into legislation.
To help ensure this historic scheme is passed, unions are calling on members to sign the following petition and return to their union office by Friday 21 May, 2010.
