Paint workers in Queensland secure pay rise
Akzo Nobel workers in Queensland have won a 5.25% pay rise.
Members at the global paints and coatings giant were successful in ensuring existing entitlements are maintained in the new two-year agreement.
‘We’re all members of our union at our site so we work together and make sure we get what we’re entitled to,’ said paint worker Trevor Carey.
However, staff at the company’s Victorian plant have a fight on their hands as Akzo Nobel is attempting to erode hard-won conditions including the 35-hour week, which was won by paint workers in the 1980s after a prolonged strike.
Members are campaigning to retain all existing conditions and secure fair wage increases, but negotiations have stalled.
