Paramedics hold another stop-work meeting

Wed 17 Sep 08 Comments

Media Release - There is still no progress in the EBA negotiations for St John Ambulance paramedics.

Paramedics will hold a stop work meeting tomorrow as St John Ambulance continue to refuse to offer their staff a fair wage increase.

The meeting, which will conclude with a media conference, marks a month of industrial action that has seen virtually no progress made in the negotiation for a new Agreement.

“It’s been four weeks since the last stop-work meeting and nothing has changed,” Ms Smith said.

“Paramedics are significantly underpaid compared to their similarly-educated health colleagues, and yet St John’s continue to dig their heels in and insist that these huge discrepencies are acceptable.”

The stop-work meeting comes after St John Ambulance took the LHMU to the IR Commission over the weekend, in a bid to have the bargaining period cancelled.

More than 100 paramedics are expected to attend the meeting, and about ten ambulance vehicles will be off the road as a result.

“Public safety has not been threatened during the industrial action campaign, and this remains the case for tomorrow’s meeting and further action,” Ms Smith said.

A media conference will be held at 10 am, Thursday 18 September, at Perth Soccer Club (Lawley St, North Perth).
