Paramedics to Resign in Droves if Situation Lingers
*Media Release* A survey has shown that a huge number of paramedics will quit their jobs if their pay dispute isn't fixed soon. 26th September, 2008.
Fifty per cent of paramedics may quit their jobs if their pay dispute isn’t settled soon – and favourably.
A comprehensive survey conducted by the LHMU indicated that fifty per cent of the paramedics will be re-considering their future with St John Ambulance if the situation drags out for much longer.
“If the government and St John Ambulance don’t satisfactorily fix this situation soon they will be facing mass resignations,” said Kelly Shay, assistant secretary of the LHMU.
“Paramedics will leave the service because they will be able to get better paid jobs elsewhere, it’s that simple.”
“It is a disgrace that the situation has come to this. How can the management of St John Ambulance believe these low wages are acceptable, and that in today’s world it is ok to not have a career structure for any health professional.”
