Paramedics Vote to Lift Work Bans
*Media Release* Paramedics' industrial action will cease from tomorrow as a gesture of goodwill. 15th October, 2008.
Paramedics have tonight voted to lift work bans in a gesture of goodwill at the state government’s intervention in their pay dispute.
“Our members are pleased that the government has become involved and they are looking forward to progress being made on this issue at last,” said LHMU assistant secretary Carolyn Smith.
“We believe the government is serious about fixing this unacceptable situation and that’s why we’re lifting the work bans.
“We are glad the government recognises the integral role that the ambulance service plays in the health system.
“The bans will be lifted as of 6 pm Thursday 16 October. This has been done on the understanding that we will have a substantially increased pay offer from St John Ambulance by 18 November.
“It is of the utmost importance that our members are consulted in any pay negotiations, and we are looking forward to meeting with the Department of Health very soon.”
Existing work bans will be lifted, including a paperwork ban that has meant paramedics have not been passing on patient billing details to St John Ambulance since August.
