Passionate about childcare

Tue 09 Mar 10 Comments

We talk to two members who spent three weeks working with our BIG STEPS in childcare campaign as member organisers.

Childcare members Kristy and BindiKristy Jones, childcare member.

1.    What are the big issues in childcare?

I’d like to see the community better understand what we do as professionals.

2.    Why does childcare deserve professional recognition?
We do a lot more than just changing nappies — we are educating children and giving them life skills.

3.    Why did you become involved in LHMU?
To work together with other members to make our industry stronger.

4.    What are you enjoying about being a member organiser?

It’s been great to share the excitement of the BIG STEPS in childcare wins so far!

Bindi Miles, childcare member.

1.    Why is it important to stand up for change?
I’m passionate about childcare. I want to stay here until I have grey hair. But right now we get burned out too quickly — I want to change that.

2.    Why did you become a member organiser?

I wanted to experience the mechanics of BIG STEPS so I could explain it better to my colleagues.

3.    Would you urge others to try being a member organiser?

100% of course! It’s a great opportunity to see first-hand what we’re trying to achieve with our BIG STEPS campaign.
