Politicians sign up to become ethical travellers
On day two of National Council, Mark Butler, former South Australian LHMU Branch Secretary and now federal Labor's Parliamentary Secretary for Health, briefed delegates going to lobby in Parliament House.
His message was simple. He suggested that when delegates talk to Ministers, Senators and MPs, they should do three things, connect, inform and inspire.
By three o'clock that afternoon it was clear that members had taken his advice to heart. Every politician they met through out the day – and there were a lot – was thanked for having been part of the team that ended John Howard's WorkChoices and delivered the new Fair Work Australia legislation. Judging from some of the responses it was clear a lot of MPs were not use to getting such effusive thanks.
But as they say in show business, never a conversation without an ask so Labor politicians were asked to sign up to become a First Star MP. By signing up MPs show they support hotels that care for workers and the environment.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government not only rushed to sign up himself, but also grabbed his colleague Roger Price in the corridor and encouraged him to sign up as well.
If you would like to join our politicians in supporting a more ethical hotel industry, sign up now.
