Victorian aerated waters delegates capped off last year by learning how to boost the strength of their sites.
In December delegates from Coke and Schweppes came to the union office for Powerhouse Delegate Training.
Philip Anderson has been a delegate at Coca Cola Moorabbin for three years. He said the best part of Powerhouse was meeting other delegates.
“We met other delegates in our industry and listened to their stories and discovered they’re having the same problems we’re having.”
Philip finds his role as delegate rewarding.
“I enjoy helping people too scared to speak up for themselves,” said Philip.
“They come to me and I try to get the best result I can for them.”
Delegates learnt how to sign up workers to the union, represent members and negotiate with management.
For Philip, the knowledge he gained was empowering.
“I’m more comfortable in my role as delegate now I better understand my rights. It’s just so much easier to move forward when you’re confident in what you’re saying.”
“Powerhouse is a great way to learn how to win better jobs across your industry. New and experienced delegates should contact the union office to register,” said Jess Walsh, LHMU Victorian Secretary.
