Qantas Dispute Update: Sunday (30 October) Midday
A number of unions have been trying to negotiate with Qantas for many months - including members of United Voice.
Qantas is pursing an aggressively hostile attitude to these negotiations in its attempt to shift many Australian jobs off-shore. In its latest bid to intimidate workers from having their say, Qantas this weekend grounded all its services and has threatened to lockout workers from Monday. As of lunch time Sunday this lockout does not affect any United Voice members.
An emergency hearing of the dispute has been called for Sunday afternoon before the industrial umpire - Fair Work Australia. A further update will be provided to members following the hearing.
At this stage we have been advised by Qantas that no United Voice members are affected by the proposed lock-out on Monday and you should therefore attend work as rostered. However we are watching very carefully what happens over the next 24 hours as ultimately Qantas's attack on any union affects all workers.
