Personal Carers and LHMU delegates, Anne Enright and Kerri Anderson spoke on behalf of members at a policy forum held in Brisbane on 30 April, about the challenges facing their sector.
The forum is part of a series used to determine the direction Labor Party policy will take in the future. Labor Party policy provides a roadmap for what Labor should do in Government.
Anne and Kerri used the opportunity to highlight the Branch submission to the policy committee and spoke on the following important issues:
-
- The need for staff to client/resident ratios, not limited to minimum staffing levels
-
- The need for greater funding for in-home care services
-
- The need to increase funding to match costs and demand in an ageing population
Delegates then passed their unions submission onto the Labor Party's Assistant National Secretary, Nick Martin.
The submission was well received and the Queensland Branch will now take the necessary steps to ensure this submission is voted into policy at the Labor Party National Conference in August.
