Queensland delegates report on Convention outcomes to the wider membership
Delegates who attended the 2010 Delegates’ Convention in May discussed and endorsed several resolutions to build a more effective and powerful union for the future.
Delegates also identified the need to focus on core union issues to improve the working lives of all LHMU members, including membership growth, converting to direct debit and commencing the operation of industry committees.
Thursday Island School Cleaner and LHMU delegate Michael Bon was thankful for the opportunity of representing members at this year’s convention and supports resolutions to build a stronger union by converting to direct debit.
‘I like the security of direct debit and the fact that I am playing a valuable part of building a strong union,’ Michael said.
Jupiter’s Casino employee and LHMU delegate Jane Packer was excited about further developing the operation of industry committees to ensure improvements across her industry for the benefit of all members.
‘It’s exciting to think that we as delegates can make a real difference to the future direction of our industry by getting involved in these committees,’ Jane said.
Delegates agreed on the need to resource industry committees and other activities, including increases to the number of delegate training and development courses, ongoing enhancements to the Member Assist section and fee increases to achieve industry wide increases to wages and conditions to substantially enhance workers lives.
