Queensland members support Labour Day

LHMU members, families and friends celebrated Labour Day across the weekend with marches and family fun days held across the state, culminating in Brisbane yesterday where members marched proudly with Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd.

 

More than a thousand Brisbane members and their families celebrated Labour Day yesterday marching alongside Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd who spoke directly with members about their concerns, which included job security, skills recognition, portable long service leave and improved superannuation.

Labour Day celebrations in Ipswich attracted a crowd of more than 100 LHMU members who marched proudly through the city’s streets to Timothy Maloney Park for a family fun day which included children’s rides and other traditional picnic day events.

LHMU members on the Gold Coast celebrated Labour Day 2010 with a new parade route followed by a big celebration in the newly-renovated Southport Broadwater Parklands with children’s rides, entertainment, a BBQ and a live band.

LHMU members attended Labour Day celebrations at other cities and towns across the state, including Barcaldine, Blackwater, Bundaberg, Cairns, Emu Park, Gladstone, Mackay, Moranbah, Maryborough, Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville.

The Union Movement’s proud history of achievements in securing the eight hour day, paid public holidays, parental leave, occupational superannuation, the 38-hour week and Long Service Leave, to name a few, are celebrated on labour Day.

Continued support for Labour Day across the state reinforces the significance of being union and in working together for a better life.
