Queensland prepares for the Mother's Day Fun Run

Tue 07 Apr 09 Comments

The LHMU is putting on their running shoes again this year in support of breast cancer research on Mothers Day, Sunday 10 May.

LHMU women and men are invited to walk or run the Mother’s Day Classic in LHMU colours with family and workmates as part of the LHMU team, and help raise money for breast cancer research.

The LHMU recognises the significance of this issue as a priority with a large proportion of the membership being women. We also recognise fellow members working in BreastScreen Qld clinics, as well as in other areas of both private and public sector diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Breast cancer strikes one in nine Australian women. The Mother’s Day Classic gives you the chance to make a difference to the lives of those women.

Since 1998, the Mother’s Day Classic has raised $4.4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s research programs.The Mother’s Day Classic, one of Australia’s leading charity events, is organised by Women in Super - a national network of women in the superannuation and finance industries - and proudly sponsored by Members Equity Bank. Both these organisations work closely with LHMU.

The LHMU objectives are to:

· Help fight the disease that affects so many LHMU members;

· Show the community that unions can contribute in a meaningful way to a better society;

· Promote collective action amongst LHMU members.

LHMU will be covering the costs of participation for all members, so please take this opportunity to show you care about the role of women in our society.

Please complete the following form and return to Debra Rhys-Davies (LHMU administration officer)  via fax on 07 3291 4699 or via post to: PO Box 3978, South Brisbane, Qld, 4101 by Thursday 23 April 2009.
