RSPCA has gone to the dogs!

Tue 24 Jun 08 Comments

Darwin members at the RSPCA have approached their union, the LHMU, wanting to place a vote of ‘no confidence’ in the RSPCA Board of Management.

“The LHMU has been advised that the Board have made the CEO position redundant despite the CEO enjoying the full support and confidence of her staff,” says Erina Early LHMU Industrial Officer.

“Staff members are pushing for the existing Board members to step down and the CEO Ms Jayne Porter to be reinstated.

“This is the seventh CEO that has left, had their employment terminated or made redundant in the last 6 years under the existing Board” Ms Early said.

“Despite the best efforts of RSCPA staff, this management instability has a bad impact on the services provided to the people and animals who rely on the RSPCA.

“It is widely held belief by the staff that Ms Porter was doing a fantastic job as CEO. This makes this decision extremely difficult to comprehend for these hard working and dedicated employees.

“LHMU members at the RSCPA have advised the Union that the Board's decision was made without consultation with staff members. Consequently, RSPCA employees are losing confidence in the Board.”

The Board at the RSPCA’s decision is effective at the end of this month.
