Sale of Sheraton Mirage puts workers at risk
Workers at the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast have urged the property’s owner Jim Raptis to meet with them after the hotel was put up for sale in September.
Workers at the Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast have urged the property’s owner Jim Raptis to meet with them after the hotel was put up for sale in September.
The LHMU has called on Raptis to ensure staff still have jobs after the sell-off.
News of plans to sell the hotel brought angry reactions because the announcement came after a ‘miserable’ pay offer at the end of a long wages freeze.
Many of the hotel’s loyal workers believe they are facing an uncertain future and the risk that some of their fellow workers may jump ship, according to LHMU Queensland Branch Secretary Gary Bullock.
‘This could leave the new owner with an artificially low wages bill and a hotel struggling to operate,’ he said.
