Senator Kate Lundy at ACT Big Steps campaign launch
Childcare professionals will tonight come together to discuss a radical new approach to improving wages in our early education and childcare sector at the launch of the LHMU ACT Branch Big Steps Campaign.
Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy will tonight be speaking at the launch of the campaign. Other speakers include the National Industry Coordinator for Childcare, Katherine Whitty, Director of Acton Early Childhood Centre, Wendy McDuff and Yvette Berry from the LHMU.
"With a Labor Government federally and in the ACT it is a great opportunity to look extensively into the problems facing the childcare industry, and build on the reforms these Governments have already implemented. However, there is still more work to be done," Senator Lundy said.
Recently the ACT Labor Government has included Childcare in the Community Sector Portable Long Service Leave Scheme. The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) also recently announced a new national standards for early childhood education and care.
Senator Lundy is a participating member of the Senate Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Workplace Relations which is currently undertaking an Inquiry into the provision of childcare and has had a long term interest in childcare issues.
