Stamford workers united!

Hundreds and hundreds of Stamford workers across Australia took part in blue band aid day on Friday, to show management they are serious about reaching agreement.

Workers were excited that momentum is building to bring negotiations to a close – and excited to be making a united stand. The latest bargaining meeting was held in Sydney on Wednesday. Despite the success of blue bandaid day, and all the other actions you’ve been doing, Stamford still refused to make a real wage offer.

A real wage offer is NOT:

  • offering a 4% pay rise when the Government is likely to hand down a similar amount on July 1 regardless.
  • an offer that is conditional on a part time clause that leaves you worse off.
  • an offer that is conditional on achieving ‘some sort of sign on bonus.’
  • offering you a small amount now, to accept a 3 year agreement that can slowly erode everyone’s working conditions.

A decent pay increase plus a secure part time clause equal a REAL wage offer.

Why a secure part-time clause is important:

Stamford’s part time clause has the potential to take away your job security, and it doesn’t offer you any money in return.

Currently, the award allows you to agree on a regular pattern of work specifying hours, days, and start and finish times. Any agreed variation to this is paid at overtime rates.

Under Stamford’s offer, you can be rostered to work anywhere from 9 to 38 hours per week. Any changes can be made to the roster as long as you “mutually agree”. No roster changes are paid at overtime rates.

The danger is to all employees. How secure will full time and casual workers feel in 12 months when part time workers are so clearly preferred by Stamford, and the majority of new employees are part time?
