Starwood staff want share in hotel chain's success

Tue 20 May 08 Comments

The majority of Starwood workers have challenged their employer to sign on to the LHMU’s ‘better jobs better hotels’ campaign. In May 943 pledges signed by staff were delivered to the luxury hotel’s bosses in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast.

‘Our hotel wins lots of awards for the fantastic service we provide our guests,’ said Marion Stewart who works at the Westin Melbourne. ‘We want our hotel to continue to succeed and we wish to share in that success.’

In addition to handing in the pledges, workers held a nationwide guessing competition as to the company’s impending profit announcement. Those at each Starwood workplace who guessed closest to the $31 million Australian (and almost $1 billion international) profit won sweet treats.
