Communication from Branch Secretary to LHMU Queensland members.
As you know, a state election has been called for Saturday March 21, 2009. You would also know that the state Labor government has disappointed the LHMU on a number of occasions.
While I'm angry that we've had to fight with the Queensland Labor government more than we should have, I also know what lies ahead for the membership of the LHMU if there is a change of government in Queensland.
I remember how 6,000 school cleaners were sacked by fax by the last Coalition government. I also remember how union members were prevented access to their union and its officials by the Coalition government's laws.
We fought hard to remove WorkChoices which saw so many LHMU members suffer. We know that Mr Springborg has made it very clear he plans to shed public sector jobs if he wins government. We also know he would waste no time in bringing laws just as bad as WorkChoices into place for Queensland workers.
This means private sector and public sector workers stand to lose a great deal if there is a change of government in Queensland.
This is not guessing. We know what they did last time and we've already seen what's planned in Western Australia with the return of the Coalition:
-
- Opposition to the Federal Government removing WorkChoices;
- Plans to bring back the unfair laws of the previous WA Coalition government - laws that inspired WorkChoices;
- Plans to contract out jobs in schools and hospitals.
- We're entitled to be frustrated with the Queensland Labor government. But I know how much worse off LHMU members would be under Mr Springborg's LNP.
There's too much at stake to let the LNP back in.
Gary Bullock
LHMU Branch Secretary
Under Springborg will your job be "de-necessary"?
Workers in Queensland have every right to be worried about what an LNP Government will mean for them and their families.
Lawrence Springborg has said he plans to make up to 12,000 jobs "de-necessary" as a strategy to handle the Global Financial Crisis.
Will your job be made "de-necessary" by Springborg?
