Ten child care professionals took the next step in becoming workplace leaders by attending LHMU training in Brisbane, together with their organisers.
Child care professionals are often unable to access paid time off for training, so to overcome this obstacle LHMU delivered training on a Saturday.
ABC Thorneside Director Crystal Silvester felt empowered after the session which included a history of trade unions, what it means to be union and the power of working as a collective.
“I would never have realised the power we, as childcare union members, have if we all work together, if I had not attended this training. On the Monday after training, I signed up another worker at the next Centre,” Crystal said.
Those in attendance also discussed a vision statement for all child care union members to strive towards:
“A Union of workers building power and taking leadership to win an appropriately funded, professionally recognised quality childcare sector.”
All in attendance agreed to attend the next module on Saturday 5 June. Members also agreed to bring someone with them.
If you would like to attend, please contact your Organiser for more information.
