In response to statewide campaign efforts, an in-principle agreement reached on Friday 24 October including wage increases of 4.5% in the first year and 4% per year for the next two, increases to all allowances, enhanced job security provisions and retention of workload provisions, has delivered Teacher Aides an agreement worth celebrating.
Many Teacher Aides will benefit from having their weekly hours guaranteed for the life of the new agreement, offering vastly improved job security.
Increased responsibility on School Managers will see improved maintenance of Non-State Funded Other hours where possible through the reallocation of casual, temporary and other hours at school level, where hours need to be adjusted.
The agreement also required Principals to maximise hours up to five hours per day without exception where state-funded hours of less than 14 hours are available.
A commitment to examine permanency for Band 5 Schools through an extensive review conducted by the LHMU and Education Queensland will assist in working towards securing hours for all employees in the future.
Overall the new agreement offers extensive improvements for all Teacher Aides and with continued support will enable improved bargaining strength in the future.
