The great ABC sell-off continues
As the second round of selling gets under way at ABC Learning centres it is vital for staff and families to have a seamless transition. That can be achieved by having one good operator take over all the centres.
"A single quality operator is the most effective way of ensuring the best outcome for both families and workers," says LHMU Assistant National Secretary Sue Lines.
"Continuity of education and care is critical for every family in every ABC centre across the country.
"As the Receivers embark on the sale of these centres they must realise that continuity of service and recognition of existing entitlements for staff are the key to the continuing success of each of these centres.
"Childcare professionals have shown their commitment to families at ABC centres in the long hard months since the company went into administration and receivership. They have continued to provide consistent quality care and education despite the continuing uncertainty about their own personal situations.
"The remaining ABC Learning centres need to go to an operator with the resources to provide quality care and education for families and career opportunities for all staff.
"Unfortunately, many of the small operators who bought ABC2 centres are finding it difficult to provide the quality care required and many childcare professionals at these centres have had to fight to retain their basic entitlements.
"That's why it's in the best interests of workers and families to have a speedy sale. A single operator committed to quality would go a long way to improving occupancy at the centres," says Sue Lines.
