Time to reclaim our rights at work!
Jess Walsh, State Secretary, writing in Union News, Winter 2008:
In May, 200 delegates and leaders came together at the MCG with hope and determination for the future.
Our fourth annual Delegates’ and Leaders’Convention was a great success.
This year we celebrated our decisive campaign to throw out the WorkChoices laws and bring back a fair go for all.
We also launched our new Powerhouse Program to train union delegates and leaders.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, told us about her commitment to active union members and her plans to change industrial laws.
Labor’s planned laws are important to our future.
We want to see better award wages, stronger collective agreements, and the right to take action in support of our claims.
At a more basic level,we want employers to start treating union members with more respect at work.
That’s where the LHMU Powerhouse Program comes in. Our new training program will assist union delegates and leaders to build the union and hold employers accountable.
We are rolling the Powerhouse Program out to all LHMU delegates who want to participate.
We’ll also train any member who wants to get more active in improving our industries.
Powerhouse will build the knowledge and skills we need to win respect and fairness in our jobs.
It's time to reclaim our rights at work!
