Tony Abbott- a WorkChoices addict
The promise by Bruce Billson, Opposition small business spokesperson, to make it easier to sack workers employed by small business proves Tony Abbott and the Coalition cannot be trusted on industrial relations, said one of Australia’s largest unions, the LHMU, today.
Louise Tarrant, LHMU National Secretary, said “Bruce Billson’s attack on the Small Business Fair Dismissal Code confirms that workers simply can’t trust the Coalition on industrial relations.
“By letting the cat out of the bag on their previously secret plan to downgrade the Code, the Coalition has shown the hollowness of their promise earlier this week not to change the Fair Work Act.
“Since that announcement the Coalition has performed more backflips than Circus Oz.
“Tony Abbott and the Liberal Party are serial WorkChoices addicts and they cannot be trusted not to bring it back in any way possible.
“Bruce Billson is right: certainty is important in the workplace. But by taking away unfair dismissal rights for workers employed by small business the Coalition is removing the certainty that those workers deserve over their own future,” said Louise Tarrant.
